Restorations and Repairs

Working in a museum restoring the Heye collection and other very old native bark canoes taught me a great deal about original building methods and use of materials. In this living classroom I learned to structurally stabilize and restore these artifacts in such a way that the repairs were hidden and unnoticeable. New materials are aged and weathered to blend into the original construction. Often bark canoes that appear beyond repair can be successfully restored with patience and know-how. It is an honour to work on these historic survivors from the past.
